Did you know that smiling is actually good for you? Studies have shown that showing off those pearly whites or letting out a good laugh releases endorphins, which are the body’s natural “feel-good” chemical. These endorphins make us feel happy and can increase positive thoughts! Give it a go and see how you feel. Happy smiling! #healthykids #kidsteeth #Toddlehood #Parenthood #Babyteeth #Kidsmiles
The Board has approved $2 million this year in grant commitments to organizations to help provide Dental Homes to more children whose families are unable to afford dental care. This is the largest commitment in The Foundation history! #donations #AAPDFoundation
A couple of months ago, an 11-year-old girl came to our Dental Clinic for a routine preventive examination. During the exam, X-rays were taken and the dentist identified a very complicated situation with an impacted canine tooth in the girls mouth (that is destroying the roots of the anterior teeth) which would ultimately lead to the loss of these permanent teeth. Immediately, the young girl was referred to our oral surgeon who saw and evaluated her here at Caridad Center and recommended a more specialized diagnostic X-ray, not available in our clinic. The dentist transferred this case to his private office where they performed the X-ray free of charge because she is a Caridad Center patient. Additionally, the dentist was able to get her a free consultation with a colleague (and Orthodontist) who will provide the patient with the orthodontic treatment needed to save her permanent teeth. The family is very happy with the care we were able to provide and the additional care we were able to link her to. What was thought to be a routine dental check-up ultimately saved this little girls teeth and will give her a healthy and beautiful smile. - Laura Kallus, Chief Executive Officer, AAPD Foundation Grantee Caridad Center, Boynton Beach, FL
Summer is here! Bring on some fun in the sun - but don’t forget about your teeth! Dental hygiene is just as important when school’s out as it is when we’ve got homework. Keep up with your brushing routine so you can get back to the party!#summertime #summer2021#summer2021 #summerschool #schoolsout

Has your child experienced tooth decay? Tooth decay, also known as caries or cavities is caused by permanent damage to the outside of teeth in the form of tiny holes or openings and not having an oral hygiene routine. To prevent this from happening, develop healthy brushing, flossing habits and visit your childs Dental Home for regular checkups.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Establish a #DentalHome as soon as your child turns one. Having healthy dental habits such as routine visits and a good oral hygiene routine will prevent your child from losing school hours due to dental issues. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Dental Home Day 2019

Dental Home Day is a day of service and a year of care, thanks to Sunstar Americas, Dental Home Day sponsor since 2013. AAPD Foundation donors and AAPD members gathered on Wednesday, May 22, 2019 to help the underserved children of Illinois receive access to dental care.

Last year, Dental Home Day was held at St. Bernard Hospital Ambulatory Care Clinic, an AAPD Foundation single-year grantee. Throughout the course of the day, children received teeth examinations, cleanings and treatments for any dental issues they may have. AAPD Foundation is providing St. Bernard a $20,000 Access to Care Grant to continue to provide care to Dental Home Day children and become a permanent Dental Home.
